You can become successful in the home based business by following a regular work schedule, although regular does not necessarily mean traditional. You require daily rituals. It is important to create rituals such as different types of time stamps or grabbing some cuppa with your cubicle mate. Moreover, try and stay within the zone. Demarcate the working hours from the distractions or co-workers. At home, the distractions come in the form of next door moms, unwashed dishes, washing the clothes etc.
You should be firm to the people who interrupt you. Just because you work from home, people tend to assume that you are more available. Get into the professional mode. You can ignite the same scented candle every day for about an hour. This will allow you to associate the candle with your working hours. Your work space needs to be defined as well. Laptops are tempting enough as they can be put all over the house and you can work easily. However, what you need to remember is that you are in the house for purposes of work.
You may opt for a separate room with the door closed, or a place where you will not be constantly disturbed. You may at the same time define an enclave where you are cut off from the rest of the house. It helps if you put the desk on the command position which faces the door and away from the wall. The work space should neither be too sparse or too cluttered. If you do analytic or focused work, you need not make it spare or bare. Hang a photograph of what is important to you – a holiday or dream vacation – as it is an important reminder of what you are working for.
You can have the entire dream board in your office. It might have images or quotes which represent the different aspects of your life and your aspirations.
