It seems as if entrepreneurship is all about the money. However, according to a new study, small business owners might want something more – time to spend free. With business owners struggling to make their companies stay afloat in the economy, more and more of them are burning out, according to the Small Business Survey of over 500 business owners by the office-printer company Brother International.
About 30% of the owners in the study said that they would rather have more time than more money. The issue of time management was a major concern with about 80% of the people vowing to use their time in a more efficient manner.
At a time when balancing work and life is the main concern, more and more businesses are phasing out top talent in the wake of a culture in which people are rewarded for smart work and making 35 hours a week. Today, all the business owners are going mad with the dot com era demanding hours of your dedication. This is especially true for people with web based businesses. The people are live on email or Twitter all the time.
People often encounter problems with emailing a small business client who is based in a time zone that is 3 hours ahead of yours at 10 or 11 in the night, because the person gives you an immediate response. It seems many owners are never asleep. This is why the study has discovered that most of the entrepreneurs are stressed out. The respondents also believe that their stress levels are higher than normal or it is the highest level of stress they have ever had.
The tech problems pose additional threats as about 77% of the business owners seem to encounter tech problems which take a production threat as a result of malfunctioning office technology. The time it seems is until as long as you can overwork before finally letting go of your productivity when the business starts suffering actually. After that, the thrill of originality is seeped out, which was something that initially attracted you to being a business owner. After that, the grind gets more and more exhausting.
The present pace is unsustainable and poses a flat risk to the health of the business owner in a lot of cases. The concern for the entrepreneurs is to enjoy free time as well as focus on the need to chase multiple businesses. In such a situation, one can only hope that the work-life balance will return. |
