How to Use a Private Mailbox

If you run an office from home or have an office without people to attend it all the time during the business hours, you may look for a private mailbox to help you better manage your packages and mail. A private mailbox will give you the required amount of reliability eliminating the chances of missed deliveries. There is always someone to receive your oversized mail or packages. The private mailbox ensures privacy, by keeping your home address unpublished.

More than anything else, there is a sense of security for your packages and mail until they are picked. There is no more the fear of subjecting them to possible theft from the home mailbox. Additionally, if you are away from home for a few days, the mail will not accumulate, which in turn would let people know that you are away. If you are moving within the same part of the town, your address can still stay the same on all the printable materials, web site etc. Moreover, if you are in a separate location, for a long time, your packages and mails will be forwarded to that location.

The private mailbox offers ample advantages from the post office box. The US Postal Service will not receive packages from other carriers, unlike other carriers such as FedEx, UPS etc. There are certain situations in which you will feel that you need a real street address instead of just a PO Box. A private mailbox will use the street address of the mailbox, along with a # sign and the box number, such as 213 Philadelphia Street, #213. Some people perceive the address as being more credible. You are allowed to use # to indicate the designation of your box number, although you should not try and pass it off as a ‘Suite’.

The postal service prefers postal mailbox or PMB but permits the # sign which is certainly recommended for businesses. The provider of the private mailbox can also offer you with different types of products or services including the packaging (which will not be done by the UPS) as well as shipping services (usually providers of the private mailbox offer at least another shipping provider along with handling the USPS related services). They are generally less crowded than the post offices and hence you can get in and out faster.
