Does Social Tools Affect Productivity Of The Employees

Individuals might be using various tools for increasing the productivity in your business, but there are chances that they may be giving you opposite results. According to a recent study by the people who are engaged in marketing, sales, legal departments etc claims that the collaboration and the social devices are really costing business several dollars in the last few hours.

According to this particular study, email, messaging system, chat facility etc are considered as the disturbing elements. It was found that nearly 60%of the work disturbances are caused by these things. It was found that nearly fourteen per cent of workers told that they cannot work continuously for 15 minutes without any disturbances. The remaining fifty three per cent told that they waste an hour because of the distractions that are caused by these things.

According to an arbitrary salary which is $30 in an hour for most of the employees, the study says that the disturbance in an hour results in a great loss to the company, the loss that the company has to suffer from is calculated as $10,375 per worker in a year. This means that a company that has total of 1,000 employees suffers from a loss of $10 million in a particular year. The main reason for this loss is use of computer and the social media applications. Most of the employees are seen chatting on the social media sites, or sending emails or are engaged in making calls.

The people who take the surveys found that twenty three per cent of the distractions are taken place due to the emails. This is followed by using the computer to complete a work. Most of the people are seen caring for their business by using the social media site, Facebook. Although I do not disagree with the point that such types of social media tools result in the interruptions in the whole working day, I agree to the exception claimed by the study that using chat facility, email and other types of social media tools can be called as “distractions”. These are not the things that distract one’s mind but it helps to complete the work.
