There are many entrepreneurs who plan to work from home office and until they try to make it they will not be able to fulfill this dream. This particular dream of working from home is really exciting and at the same time can be shocking to the system. It is not related to bunny slippers and the day’s shaving. If you want to save both your time and money, you can do it by using a home office. But, there are people for whom working from home is regarded as a time waster.
Howard Hook who is a certified financial planner and certified public accountant with the Access Wealth Planning in Roseland, N.J said that if you are not disciplined, then you can be much efficient than you really are at work. There are certain things that you should follow while making a home office. If you built a home office space in your home, you should do it in a right manner. The IRS follows certain strict rules that surround the home offices as they give business people certain important deductions.
The home office home that you built should be exclusively meant for the business purpose. This means that the room that you select cannot be used for any of your personal use, like for example they cannot be used as a bedroom for guest. There are no chances that the auditor will ever know that if you allow your kids to see television in that particular home office, but on the other hand, it could result in violating the “exclusive” rule if it continues to happen in a regular manner.
It is not necessary that the deduction should be made for the whole room, if that particular section of the room is not meant for personal use, as said by Cynthia Turoski, who is a certified financial planner and a certified public accountant. She also said that there is an exception to this particular case for the retail and wholesale sellers who use a certain portion of their home used for the storage of inventory and the product samples if certain fixed criterion is met. There is a difference between direct and indirect expenses, as revealed by Hook. Direct expenses are the ones which are only attributed to the business portion of the house.
